Underlining confuses the visitor
Why? Yes, because on the web, most people react by thinking that an underlined word is also a link, so you are “fooling” your readers. Unfortunately, some people will click on the underlined word and get annoyed when it is not a link.
If you want to highlight something online, use either italics or bold text.
Recently there is a tendency to dislike underlining of links, unfortunately.
Your task when writing online is to make it easier for visitors to find your website. If you want to highlight links with a different color or bold text, be consistent and use it everywhere and only for links.
Whatever your own aesthetic sense, it is the user experience that matters most!
Function is always more important than design
